Hagger joined Thunder ahead of the 2021/22 season, and has progressed quickly with the club, being awarded an ‘Assistant Captain’ role for 22/23 and the full Captaincy for last season. #45 Hayden is a hugely popular member of the locker room and his decision to return for another year will be a popular one amongst his teammates, staff and fans alike.

Hayden is positive about the direction the club is taking and suggested it was an easy decision to rejoin for the upcoming season:

I’m really excited to be back this season with the group.

When I first joined Thunder I knew straight away that this was the club for me. It has a great atmosphere and the commitment to helping the younger players progress is amazing.

Will is putting together a great looking team this year and with Lauren helping I’m sure we will surprise a lot of teams this coming season.

Thunder Head Coach had this to say about bringing Hagger back:

There are plenty of positives for us in securing Hagger for another year. Firstly, as a player he is a bit of a swiss army knife, and will give 100% in any situation you throw him into, he’s got good technical skill and see’s the game really well. Secondly, he’s got fantastic leadership skills – as proven by the awarding of the captaincy last season – not only on the ice, but his attitude and approach to supporting those around him is a really strong characteristic that we will lean on again next year.

We’re slowly putting together an exciting team that has, in my opinion, a lot of underestimated potential, and as Hayden says we have the ability to cause some shocks come September. We’re pleased that Hayden has committed to being a part of that and is bought into our vision and goals moving forwards!

Everyone at the club is delighted that Hagger is sticking around. We look forward to welcoming him back along with the rest of our refreshed roster next month for pre-season.
