Peters Returns to Thunderdome

2024/25's Most improved player Sam Peters will return for the upcoming season, looking to build on the huge progress made during the last campaign.

Forward #9 Sam Peters has put pen to paper on an extension with Thunder, and after winning Most Improved Player at the recent Thunder Awards night, he will be looking to bring back the exciting, fast and physical game that quickly turned him into a fan favourite after joining the club part way through the 2024/25 season.

Sam, 23, had previously represented Bracknell Wasps for one season in NIHL 2 before moving to Nottingham for university, where he first connected with Head Coach Will Fry as part of the Nottingham Mavericks team that won a BUIHA national championship in 2023. When Thunder were struggling with injuries and availability he agreed to help us and over 18 games registered 4 points and developed confidence in his game, performing well against some of the toughest opposition in NIHL 1. One of the fastest players on the roster last season, Sam has good hands and isn’t afraid to play physically when needed.

Sam commented on his return to Milton Keynes:

Can’t wait to be back in a Thunder jersey. Hopefully this season we’ll hit the ground running and really challenge for silverware, we all really want to give back to the supporters who were there for us through a hard 2024/25 season. The roster we’ve put together for this year is a lot stronger than what we had before so expect big things from us!

Thunder Head Coach Will Fry on the decision to re-sign Sam:

When I spoke with Sam last season to come down and help us out during a difficult period, it was only supposed to be for a few games injury and suspension cover. However, its testament to his work ethic and the confidence he developed in his own abilities that very quickly became one of the first names on the team sheet. He’s a great guy, and provides huge value off the ice in the room as much as he does on it. He thoroughly deserved his award for most improved player and this season we’ll be looking to push him on further and help him continue what we all believe could be an extensive senior hockey career.

Sam will wear number 9 again this season, and his home & away jerseys are available now for own and loan at £80 each – Please email mkthundericehockey@gmail.com to reserve yours.
