JOIN OUR TEAM: STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
Thunder are inviting applications for a volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our performance staff ahead of the 2025/26 season.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing performance culture within a senior ice hockey club committed to developing athletes and driving standards across the organisation.
About the Role
As our S&C Coach, you’ll play a key role in supporting player development, injury prevention, and overall team performance. Working closely with our Head Coach and support staff, you’ll help deliver a structured and impactful physical development programme tailored to the demands of senior hockey and the club’s long-term vision for success.
Hours: Approx. 3 hours per week (Wednesday training, match days, and optional S&C sessions)

Reports to: Head Coach
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver warm-ups, cool-downs, and recovery routines during training and matches

Plan and lead fitness testing (strength, speed, agility), load monitoring, and performance assessments in a structured and data driven process.

Collaborate with players on individual training plans

Contribute to injury-prevention programming in partnership with coaching and medical staff

Support the club’s development of a long-term S&C strategy, with a focus on youth integration and performance culture

Maintain a safe, engaging, and professional training environment
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone passionate about physical performance in a team sport setting—ideally a current undergraduate, recent graduate, or early-career practitioner looking to apply their skills in a real-world environment.
Essential:

Studying or graduated in Sport & Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning, or related discipline

Experience leading or supporting group training sessions

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Self-motivated, proactive, and professional
-
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check
Desirable:
-
Accredited or working towards UKSCA, BASES, CIMSPA or CSCS/NSCA certification

Experience in youth or elite sporting environments

Knowledge of fitness testing tools or data interpretation
-
Familiarity with return-to-play or injury-prevention programming
-
Ice hockey experience (not essential)
