MK Thunder

Return of the Mac

Milton Keynes through and through, Harry MacGarvey returns for a 4th season with Thunder.

Please welcome back #22 Harry MacGarvey who extends his stay in Milton Keynes for another year.

Harry, who is a product of the MK junior system, exemplifies everything that our club is about and wants to achieve. He first represented Thunder in the 2020-21 NIHL Cup whilst still an U18 with Storm, and has grown with the club year on year affirming himself as a key player, and locker room favourite.

Over the past 2 years Harry has been studying in Nottingham but made the commitment to return as much as possible to ice for Thunder, he has achieved success with the University team there winning a National Championship in 2023, alongside James Cox and under incoming Head Coach Will Fry, and the three of them will be looking to instill that winning mentality in Milton Keynes next season.

The decision to re-sign for 24/25 was an easy one:

I am delighted to sign for another season at Thunder. The attitude and culture of the club is fantastic. I am excited to watch our prospects develop and how the new signings fit into the team.

I have worked with Will before and he brings a detail oriented approach to his coaching and game management. He has a long-term vision for the team and everyone associated with the club should be excited by the direction of travel.

I am looking forward to getting going again and for the team to be more competitive for 24/25.

Head Coach Will Fry had this to say about Harry’s decision to stay in town:

It’s great news Harry has chosen to stay with us for another season, I know there were other options available that might have been easier around his university commitments in Nottingham, but his commitment to Milton Keynes and Thunder in particular are second to none.

I had Harry in my team in Nottingham for the past couple of seasons, and he was an influential player in our National championship winning group last year. He’s a versatile forward and is reliable whether he’s playing centre or on either wing. Harry will provide us speed and high effort levels. He’s a good skater with a good hockey brain and, although I know it isn’t his favourite thing in the world, a phenomenal penalty killer.

He holds himself to extremely high standards and is never afraid to put in the work. We both know each other well, and looking forward to continuing the work on his game we were putting in at Nottingham. Harry will be a key player for us next year no doubt. He’s got good leadership skills and knows the MK system really well, so he will provide a huge input and benefit for our young prospects coming through.

We’re delighted that Harry has agreed to return, and we know there will be plenty of local support for him at our first home game in September. He really is ‘one of our own’ when it comes to the development and ongoing success of local talent.

Harry’s jerseys are available now for Own & Loan, at £95 each.
